Structural Applications of Nuclear Spin-lattice Relaxation Times

چکیده

The structural utility of three mechanisms of nuclear spin relaxation are considered. Examples illustrating the applicability of nuclear-nuclear dipolar relaxation in determining molecular microdynamics and solution geometry are presented. The use of spin-rotation relaxation to determine barriers to CH3 groups rotations and an example of quadrupole relaxation of deuteriums to probe molecular motion are discussed. An experimental method for determining relaxation times is briefly analysed.

T1ρ imaging: Techniques and Basis for Image Contrast

Introduction Nuclear spin relaxation plays a key role in imparting image contrast in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Traditionally, T1 (spin-lattice relaxation) and T2 (spin-spin relaxation) relaxation times and magnetization transfer (MT) contrast are exploited to better visualize a given tissue in a specific pathology. In recent years, T1ρ (spin-lattice relaxation in the rotating frame) is ...

Dynamics of HD Molecules Trapped in Cages of Zeolite

There is considerable interest in the use of mesoporous structures (e.g. zeolites and metal organic frameworks) for hydrogen storage but little is known about the molecular interactions and the dynamics of molecules inside the cages of these structures. In order to determine these properties we have measured the nuclear magnetic spin-lattice and spin-spin relaxation times of HD molecules trappe...

Beyond the T1 limit: singlet nuclear spin states in low magnetic fields.

Low-field nuclear spin singlet states may be used to store nuclear spin order in a room temperature liquid for a time much longer than the spin-lattice relaxation time constant T1. The low-field nuclear spin singlets are unaffected by intramolecular dipole-dipole relaxation, which is generally the predominant relaxation mechanism. We demonstrate storage of nuclear spin order for more than 10 ti...

Nuclear Magnetic Relaxation in a Spin 1 System

Deuterium nuclear magnetic resonance (HNMR) has become a very valuable tool in the study of the structure and dynamics of anisotropic fluids, especially lipid bilayer model and biological membranes (1,2). Because the deuterium nucleus has spin / = 1, there is a quadrupolar splitting of the nuclear Zeeman resonance line into a doublet whenever the nucleus experiences a non-zero electric field gr...

Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance in Amorphous Semiconductors *

Nuclear quadrupole resonance ( N Q R ) has provided a valuable tool for investigating the local structural order in semiconducting glasses. Measurements of N Q R lineshapes and spin-lattice relaxation times help elucidate the local structural order and the unusual vibrational properties, respectively, o f these glasses. In addition, N Q R lineshape measurements on samples that are made under co...
